The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), India's largest hospitality company, is set to make its debut in Vellore with the signing of a new Vivanta hotel — ushering in a significant chapter in the city's evolving growth story. The greenfield project reflects rising investor confidence in Vellore's expanding economic and tourism potential.
A Strategic Entry Into A Growing City
Known for its prestigious educational institutions, world-class healthcare facilities, and expanding industrial base, Vellore has steadily strengthened its reputation as a destination that blends opportunity with heritage. According to Ms. Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President — Real Estate & Development, IHCL, Vellore's improving connectivity, strong industrial ecosystem, and educational prominence make it an ideal market for hospitality expansion.
Contemporary Energy Meets Comfort
Designed in line with the brand's vibrant and contemporary ethos, Vivanta Vellore will feature 100 thoughtfully designed rooms, an all-day dining restaurant, a stylish bar and a relaxed pool lounge bar. For corporate and social events, the hotel will offer multiple meeting rooms and a banquet hall spanning over 2,500 square feet, along with a fitness centre and swimming pool.
A Partnership Rooted In Enterprise
The project is being developed in collaboration with BBK Group, founded in 1994 by Mr. Baskaran, which grew from the BBK Shoes factory into a leading vertically integrated leather footwear and goods manufacturer with eight facilities across Tamil Nadu, and has since diversified into renewable energy through wind and solar farms.
A City Of Heritage And Industry
Vellore's appeal extends beyond its economic significance — it is home to the historic Vellore Fort and the Golden Temple (Sripuram). Founded by Jamsetji Tata, IHCL opened its first hotel, The Taj Mahal Palace, in 1903, and today its portfolio includes over 600 hotels globally. The signing of Vivanta Vellore represents the convergence of heritage, industry, and modern aspiration for a city advancing as a centre of education, manufacturing, and healthcare.
